MOVE over Nintendo, the PlayStation motion controller is here!
So it’s very close indeed. The much anticipated PlayStation motion controller which will quite simply be called the PlayStation ‘Move’ is set to take away the Wii’s unique selling point whilst propelling PlayStation higher up the league table in the console wars.
The PlayStation Move looks similar to the Wii’s own nun chuck with a main controller for your prominent hand and a slightly smaller sub controller for the other. The obvious physical difference though is the colour changing glowing ball which sits on top of the main controller. This is tracked by the PlayStation eye to make the motion sensing possible. It also uses it’s glowing capabilities to improve detection in low light and changing colour to indicate in game features or events. Thankfully and cleverly the orb is squishy so in the event of a breaking wrist strap the odd TV screen might be saved.
I must admit to be quite excited by this. Potentially motion sensing games for an adult audience could be fantastic and with games such as SOCOM 4 in the pipeline that is clearly part of Sony’s master plan. Of course there are going to be your run of the mill title releases like the inevitable bowling and golf games. Although with over 30 third party developers including big names like Konami, Activision and EA already working on projects the potential for really pushing this tech forward is huge.
Step up Microsoft or you could be left behind!
